Overview
1996-2022
My Past
Iʻve been fortunate to showcase the creativity in California (Los Angeles, Pasadena, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Santa Cruz), on the East Coast (New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts), and in Europe (Paris, Vienna, Ljubljana, Istanbul) and am currently nestled in what has become home, Santa Barbara.
I no longer have a "day job" or "day jobs" to support the creative life, and live a quiet creative life free to be me and able to do what I want with who I want when I want and where I want.
My partner and cherish this life.
Let the play continue!
The Curriculum Vitae is the "mending" journey, and was alot about trying to harness the energy of the ego to manifest dreams in a way that resonated with my value system.
PRESS QUOTES
Misa Miele Mandigo Kelly
Press & Audience Quotes
PRESS
“Perfect dance poetics with sophisticated movement vocabulary”
Parada Plesa, Slovenia’s dance magazine
“She has a wonderful sense of composition and comedic timing, combined with a clarity of statement. Kelly’s work has the feel of performance art, but it is more than that. If I had to put a label on Kelly’s work, it would be dance/performance art.”
Jeff Slayton, SEE Dance
“Kelly is an experienced performance artist and a seasoned performer who brings life to Karlin through her acting and being comfortable working with props. She is Alma Karlin in one scene and then beautifully performs musically on brass bowls, a gourd, rocks in a jar and with her own vocals as Trina Mannino dances....the choreography by Stephen Kelly, Misa Kelly and Trina Mannino is beautifully structured”
Jeff Slayton, SEE Dance
“Kelly, a woman slight in stature, proved an overwhelming and formidable presence on stage in her work which used her own vocalizations in a psychological journey.”
Steven Woodruff- Dance Plug
“Kelly’s pieces – especially Nadar Sabe Mi Llama el Agua Fria – explored the coexistence of athletic genius and disability in the same body, while maintaining an insistence on aesthetic appeal.”
Rebecca Joley - L.A. Yoga Magazine
“Under No Certain Circumstance” by SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre of Santa Barbara, danced by Misa Kelly and Weslie Ching, was an audience favorite. There was no accompanying music and the grunts and sounds of the two dancers offered a comedic air to a dance that expressed anger, frustration, and cooperation.”
Barbara Ransom – Life in L.A.
“At once tragic and heroic, innocent and all-knowing, the persona Kelly presented here was as fascinating as the piece was gorgeously multilayered”
Justine Sutton - Noozhawk
“The work “stood out for” for its “deep & honest exploration of what it is to be human...a gutsy searching solo”
Elizabeth Schwyzer - Santa Barbara Independent
“Surprisingly subtle choreography against feats of athleticism”
Elizabeth Schwyzer - Santa Barbara Independent
“Striking and surreal in most places, it was as playful as the fun of its cut-up music... The evening was like a good mixed tape made by a friend who wants to turn you on to the newest in new. Consider that mission accomplished."
Ted Mills - Santa Barbara News Press
“Astonishingly gifted”
Santa Barbara News Press
“The result was electric”
Elizabeth Schwyzer - Santa Barbara Independent
“A witty piece by Kelly set on a larger group that involved dancers of all ages. Against a dramatic soundscape created by the choreographer, dancers interacted playfully with chairs, the audience, and each other, filling the black-box space with teasing humor and a sense of freedom.”
Charles Donelan - Santa Barbara Independent
"Misa Kelly and Joanna Nobbe’s vulnerable and riotously funny “Unzipped,"
Elizabeth Schwyzer, The Independent
AUDIENCE
“You have what the rest of us are hoping to find.”
Peggy Baker, Choreographer
“Your performance was riveting. It held me from the beginning until the end” BeBe Miller, Choreographer
"Profound” – Delila Mosley, Director UCSB Student Company, Owner Montecito School of Ballet
“Epic” – Valerie Huston, Ballet Faculty, UCSB
“Cathartic” – Karsen Gould, Artistic Director, Arts for Humanity
"Fresh, authentic & wild" – Elaine Nakashima, Massage Therapist & Dancer
“You have become a master of the non-sequiter” – E. Bonnie Lewis, Drama Dogs, a Theater Company
“What I love about your work, is how you continue to evolve. What I see others doing tonight, you were doing twenty years ago, you are on an entirely new trajectory right now.” – Christine Boesch
“Crazy wicked genius” – Steven Soria, Make SmithTM Leather
“That was the bravest work I’ve witnessed in a long time” – Kathee Miller, Professor at Pacifica Graduate Institute, Photographer

Dance Teachers Gone Wild
– Improvisation & Performance of X=Y; Collaboration with Steven Lovelace
- Produced by Santa Barbara Dance Arts
Note: working with Steven Lovelace was extraordinary, truly extraordinary. It felt very much like meeting my match in terms of creative impulse, integrity, humor, and playfulness, and I wish we had had more than one improvisational go together. Perhaps another lifetime. Blessings on this amazing human. Just blessings. I simply
adore this man, and release him to the winds with great gratitude as I cleanse and refresh my chords of connection in the universe.

Kinesis
– Premiere of “Flint”; Educational Outreach, Choreography, Soundscore, Costume Design
- Produced by the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance
Note: the SBCC students had not yet performed at this venue and for this community. This was the first for this community, a groundbreaking stigma busting gesture. Amazing process! I remember thinking, that it seemed like there was something not alive in them, some disconnection from nature, and set the intention to enliven this, and found great success. I felt like I had to roar like a Lion. Each and every one of them met the challenge and we were all transformed in process.

DANCEWorks: Doug Elkins
– Performance: Flashmob
- Produced by DANCEWorks
Note: Honesty. I was incredibly lonely with this process, and didnʻt feel as if I belonged, somehow, and felt really uncomfortable with the hero worship that always seemed to be present when the superstars were in town, mostly because, I think, when we hero worship, we give our power away. While on the one hand, it was wonderful to see the whole dance community come out, on the other hand it was painful. Why come out for the stars but not support the locals? I think many of us did this, because we wanted to be hip, or cool, or be someone other than who we were, or stand out from the rest, rather than realizing, well, weʻre just doing just fine. Humillity, it is important to me, and I found it a hard texture to connect with personally during the project. I learned alot from Doug, in his master classes over the years, and he was always so generous, and good with drawing boundaries. He once told me, in Studio B, thatʻs TMI, when I shared a story. The next day I came to class with a T-shirt Iʻd spray painted TMI on. Oh goodness, I could be very naughty and rebellious in classes at times! I had no boundaries, true, back then, but now I do!
