In 1996, post graduation from Cal Arts, I followed through with manifesting dreams, and a part of this, was create a non-profit foundation that would serve both my own visions, but also, artists in the local, national, and international community. The individual I worked most closely with at this time was Sarah Wingren, although there was advisement with many artists, and some minimal support. The bulk of the work was our work, Sarah and myself.
I have begun to upload this history as I revisit it, in that, after my resignation from the Board, for which I served multiple roles in addition to serving as its Executive Director (100% volunteer efforts for these roles as were all members of the Board.) in 2019, the Dance Company that was manifest from SonneBlauma never went on to make another project, and the Foundation lost its 501 (c) 3 status.
In that this organization was a very large part of my life work, and no records were preserved or an archival site made of the achievements, I am unerasing myself, and this history.
I gave around 1.3 million in opportunity costs to the California arts community, and I believe it is an important part of history.
my final year as Executive Director and co-founder of the foundation with Sarah Wingren providing primary support as co-founder, and another individual we gave the title to of co-founder, who relative to all the work required, gave a very small percentage of effort. At that time, I personally thought, if you are even giving a small portion, you are still vital. Now, I have a different persepctive and can see the exploitive nature of the dynamics, and stating factually seems to be serve my personal evolution and growth. I was too generous, too trusting, too naive, and well... letting go.
